The 10th October marks World Mental Health Day a globally-recognised awareness day from the World Health Organisation.

This year, the theme is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.’ PAPYRUS is dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people, so we aim to make mental health, suicide, and wellbeing a priority, 365 days a year.

But why is it important that we open up safe conversations around mental health, suicide, and wellbeing?

  • Suicide is the biggest killer of under 35s in the UK
  • 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England (MIND)
  • 1 in 3 calls to HOPELINE247 are from a child
  • With appropriate support and intervention most suicide is preventable

Throughout the year, PAPYRUS has been working on several projects which will be released on World Mental Health Day to encourage people to open up safe conversations around mental health, suicide and wellbeing, in the hopes that more young people will reach out for support and understand that they are not alone. Below is an overview of what is being shared for World Mental Health Day 2022:

Earlier this year, PAPYRUS released 10 To My Fellow… videos as part of an ongoing campaign. Since then, our team have met seven more inspiring individuals who have messages for their fellow… Students, Neurodivergent People, Farming Community, Healthcare Professionals, Differently Abled, LGBTQIA+ Community and Young Muslims. Find the full campaign HERE.

As part of the Healthcare Communications Association (HCA) Wellbeing Week, starting on the 10thOctober, the HCA has worked in collaboration with PAPYRUS to create two ‘We Need to Talk About Workplace Wellbeing.’ Resource packs. These resource packs aim to give team leaders, managers as well as employees a guide to supporting their own and others wellbeing, encouraging safe conversations about wellbeing within the workplace. If you are interested in viewing these documents, you can request them via the HCA website HERE.
