Following the official announcement made last month, PAPYRUS is delighted to announce that it has been selected as The Wates Group’s official charity partner for 2023-2026 –further strengthening the relationship between the charity and the leading construction firm.

Following a vote – which saw Wates staff from across the UK selecting from three worthy charities – we can finally announce that PAPYRUS has been chosen as its official charity partner.

Our corporate partnership with Wates is an important one – suicide sadly affects the construction industry disproportionately to other sectors in the UK. According to the organisation Mates in Mind, we know that suicide is killing more people than falls in the construction industry, and that in construction, men are three times more likely to die by suicide than the national average for men.

PAPYRUS’s partnership with Wates can help to raise awareness of suicide prevention within the construction industry and can enact real change in the sector. We are proud to have been chosen to support the staff at Wates through our partnership and are already planning myriad suicide prevention initiatives.

Hazel Russell, head of business support services at PAPYRUS, said:

“We are overjoyed that our work with Wates Group over the last few years has assisted in us now becoming its official corporate partner.

“Not only will this partnership be transformational for us as a charity but we believe that the positive impact that it will have on such a large group of people will be hugely transformation for the construction industry.

“We are thrilled and are looking forward to making plans and starting our partnership, together we will help to save many lives and keep young people safe from suicide.”
