New PAPYRUS Patron

30th January 2017

PAPYRUS is delighted to announce that Norman Lamb MP is a new Patron of the charity.

Norman is MP for North Norfolk and is a Liberal Democrat. He served as Caring Services Minister in the Coalition Government until May 2015 and played a significant and lead role in the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England (2010).

Norman has given several key speeches about mental health and specifically about suicide in recent times, not least as Chair of the Mental Health Commission for the West Midlands Combined Authority. He has also spoken publicly of his personal connections to mental illness and suicide.

“I believe that whenever someone takes their own life through suicide it is not just a tragedy – it should be a reminder that we must work towards a system where this simply does not happen.  This is something we can achieve. Together we can save thousands of lives.” Norman Lamb MP

We look forward to working closely with this great champion of young people’s mental health and wellbeing in the years to come.

Be part of PAPYRUS

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people - male and female - under 35 in the UK. Many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling.

We are the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. We draw from the experience of many who have been touched personally by young suicide across the UK and speak on their behalf in our campaigns and in our work. We need more people who share our aims to join us to strengthen our voice - together we can save young lives.
