James Warshaw, a final year law student at Durham University, was stunned when his popular friend and fellow student Sagaar Naresh sadly took his own life, aged 20, in October 2014.
Determined to raise awareness that support is available to other young people, James is running the Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon on 26th June to raise funds for national charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.
Since Sagaar died, James has been alarmed to discover that suicide is the main cause of death in young people under the age of 35. “It is a subject very close to my heart and I want to do all I can to support this amazing charity.”
Now that James has just finished his final exams, he is training in earnest as he feels a bit out of step with serious training since as it is three years since he ran his first half marathon.
“This is an amazing effort by James, helping us to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented and reach out to more young people, encouraging them to talk and above all to seek help,” said Ottilie Scanlon, PAPYRUS fundraising assistant.
