PAPYRUS has been awarded a grant of £98,667 to support its suicide prevention services for children.
The grant will fund a Suicide Prevention Advisor and operational costs over a three year period.
To quote the Children in Need citation:
‘The project provides a professionally staffed confidential advice service to children and young people at risk of suicide. The advice service can be accessed by young people or parents/caregivers who may be worried about a young person, via an anonymous email, anonymous text or over the telephone. The advice service helps to give young people and parents/caregivers a safe place to talk openly, improves emotional resilience, and encourages the young people to build help-seeking skills.’
“The generosity of Children in Need is vital support to help us maintain and extend our HOPELineUK helpline services for young people who feel they are not coping with life, many who have turned to self-harm and have had suicidal thoughts,” said Ged Flynn, chief executive of PAPYRUS. “It will help us provide additional resources to respond with support and advice to the increasing number of ‘phone, text and email requests we receive from young people and concerned others.”
