PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide warmly welcomes the Welsh Government National Strategy on Suicide Prevention and Self Harm Reduction launched in Cardiff today.
Ged Flynn, PAPYRUS chief executive, said:
"I have been privileged to be part of the national advisory group which has been working to prepare the new strategy, Talk to Me 2. Every member of the community, whatever his or her role, can play a part in better understanding suicidal or self harming behaviours. We can help to shatter stigma around these issues."
I am really pleased that young people who are vulnerable to thoughts of suicide remain a key focus within the strategy alongside other at-risk groups.
Suicide and self-harm remain subjects about which most of us are fearful. We need to change this. The new strategy outlines ways for all of us to get involved in turning around our fear and becoming more suicide aware, challenging us all to act and make a contribution where we suspect there may be a risk to somebody's life."
PAPYRUS is the national charity dedicated to reducing the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma around suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour.
