HOPEWALK 2021 marks the 9th annual walk to #SmashTheStigma and to raise vital funds for suicide prevention. Over the years, you have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to help save young lives across the UK, and your continued support truly does give us hope.
Last year looked very different for everyone – but we found that HOPEWALK was an important event that meant a lot to our supporters, so we went virtual! This year sees the return of HOPEWALK without social bubbles or social distancing. Your walk can be as big or as small as you want – virtual or in person – you have the opportunity to get as creative as you like.
Digital Host Pack – we have an amazing digital pack, absolutely full to the brim with information, resources, and fun activities! After you have paid your registration fee, you will receive a welcome email with a link to download our amazing digital host pack – which will make your HOPEWALK fun and exciting for all ages.
HOPEWALK Host Pack – with a return to in-person walks, you’ll get the best of both worlds this year! You will receive your digital host pack via email, but you will also receive your Host Pack absolutely full of goodies in the post. Please allow up to two weeks for your Host Pack to arrive, but do get in touch if your walk is sooner, as we will do our utmost to get everything to you in time!

What is HOPEWALK?
PAPYRUS launched HOPEWALK eight years ago, around World Mental Health Awareness Day on October 10th 2013. Originally, we asked you to organise walks during this week in October, but over the years it has evolved and now takes place over the whole month of October.
Everyone’s HOPEWALK will be different with one common goal; to smash the stigma and get the conversation around suicide started.
How much does it cost?
The cost of registration this year is £15 – this covers the cost of your HOPEWALK Host Pack, which is full of goodies to make the most of your walk.
Remember, just £5 can help us to support a young person with thoughts of suicide by call, text, or email. Your registration fee goes straight back into supporting those at risk of suicide, and anyone worried about them.
Do I have to walk in October?
Most people choose to have their walk take place in October to celebrate World Mental Health Day, but you are more than welcome to walk at another time during the year.
I’d like to walk but don’t think I could organise my own. What can I do?
Please do keep checking back on our website, as we will be listing “public walks” including our office walks that will take place in the following locations:
How do I invite people to join my walk?
You will receive some posters in your HOPEWALK Host Pack that are left blank so you can fill out the details for your walk.
We suggest you ask local businesses if you can display and advertise your walk there – for example, in your local GP or your corner shop.
We would also advise that you share your walk on social media – you can even make it an event on Facebook and invite people to join!
Do I have to fundraise?
Some people choose to use their HOPEWALK to raise funds, others choose to walk in memory of a loved one or to raise awareness. Either is absolutely fine. You can choose to use your HOPEWALK to raise funds, but you absolutely don’t have to – our aim is to get the conversation around suicide started, in order to #SmashTheStigma.
What help can PAPYRUS offer me?
We can help guide you with planning your HOPEWALK, such as how to boost donations or sponsorship. You will receive our amazing digital fundraising pack – including a children’s activity pack! This is chock-full of information, hints and tips, as well as printable resources and fun activities.
Our press office can help advise you on how to promote your event in local media – please just get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any queries!
Don’t forget we’re always here to cheer you on so if there’s anything we can help with, just let us know.
