In recent weeks the HOPELINE247 Management Team, along with our Head of Marketing and Communications, met with earthware – a company that strive to solve real world problems through digital consultancy, websites and apps.

earthware have recruited two talented university student interns for the summer – Alex and Grace – who have been tasked with creating a product for PAPYRUS. We are grateful to be earthware’s chosen charity and it’s clear that the team are passionate about our cause.

Over the next 6 weeks the earthware interns will be working directly with our team here at PAPYRUS to create a digital solution that will support us on our mission to prevent young suicide.

Our workshop with earthware really got us wondering how we can use technology to support young people with their thoughts of suicide. We focused on areas for improvement and through our discussion 3 possible digital solutions emerged. earthware’s 3 ideas were: a ‘chatbot’ for our website and Facebook, an online suicide safety plan and a gaming live chat. The staff at PAPYRUS and earthware all voted for their favourite solution and the winning project was… an online suicide safety plan!

At HOPELINE247, safety planning is an important part of how we help young people to cope with their thoughts of suicide. Every safety plan is unique and reminds users of their individual connections to life. A safety plan can help someone to stay physically safe from harm, give them a greater understanding of things to avoid and things that help them to cope, as well as recording places and people they can turn to for support during difficult times.

We are very excited to see how this new product develops and we will be updating you on earthware’s progress over the next few weeks – so watch this space!
