2023 was a remarkable year for fundraising in PAPYRUS, and we have an exciting line-up for the year ahead. We’re eager to share what’s in store and how you can contribute to our mission of saving young lives in 2024.

What a year 2023 was! Last year marked substantial growth within our fundraising team at the Warrington Head Office, which doubled in size. Our team’s expansion means we now have professionals dedicated to enhancing the fundraising experience across various avenues. As well as our growth, we’ve broadened the opportunities for supporters to engage with us, resulting in more people than ever contributing to PAPYRUS’s cause.

What else did 2023 entail?

  • In 2023, over 1,200 JustGiving pages were set up in aid of PAPYRUS, and these pages have collectively raised over £1.5million and counting.
  • We had teams in nine major running events, including the London Marathon and Great North Run, where we manned a marquee in the charity village.
  • We successfully hosted our Parachute for PAPYRUS dates for the 3rd year in a row.
  • We welcomed 150 new regular donors.
  • We created two virtual challenges, ‘4k a day’, which coincided with Children’s Mental Health Week 2023 in February, and ‘120K in May’, and grew a community of over 160 amazing fundraisers and supporters in our collaborative Facebook group.
  • We were supported by many corporations, trusts, foundations and lots of incredible individuals whose stories made the press. These include Emma Webb’s #DoitforBrodie, The Wonky Heart Challenge in memory of Harry Smith, and Lucy West’s Wings of Hope.

Our supporters and fundraisers play a pivotal role in our funding. This influx of funds allows us to expand our reach and support more young people across the UK facing the risk of suicide. The growing reach of PAPYRUS is evident this year, as with your help, we have managed to open eight new PAPYRUS hubs in Swindon, Leeds, Truro, Conwy, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth, Stirling, and Aberdeen, where dedicated teams are tirelessly providing suicide prevention training and raising awareness.

Every fundraiser also helps us raise vital awareness of PAPYRUS and spread our message of hope. It was heartwarming to see over 75 HOPEWALK events hosted around the country this October, where communities came together to walk through their local areas to raise awareness and funds for PAPYRUS and suicide prevention.

But, there’s no slowing down. We’re commencing 2024 with a series of new challenges and plans for the year ahead…

  • In 2024, we are bringing you new challenge opportunities, such as the chance to ride the fastest zipline in the world or walk what is currently the UK’s tallest rollercoaster.
  • We are growing our Facebook community and hosting new Facebook challenges so you can support PAPYRUS no matter where you are in the world. Keep your eye out in the coming months.
  • We have created new resources to encourage you throughout your fundraising journey.
  • We will send out regular communications so that you can understand the incredible impact of your donations and how they help us save young lives.

We hope that in 2024, you will feel empowered to help spread PAPYRUS’s message and become involved in fundraising; our dedicated team will be available throughout the year to support you. If you are already involved, we encourage you to engage your networks and let friends and family know about your amazing work for PAPYRUS. By letting people know about our work, you might save a life.

Here are a couple of the Fundraising team’s aspirations for 2024:

  • We wish to grow our fundraising family and make it more accessible for everyone to be involved. Your suggestions on how we can better support you are highly valued, so if you have any thoughts, please do get in touch.
  • We hope to continue to help bereaved families find solace, support and community throughout their fundraising journey.
