Teenager's music legacy to save young lives
The family of a talented young musician has released one of his recordings in his memory
The family of a talented young musician who sadly took his own life has released one of his recorded songs to raise funds that will help to save future young lives. Their aim is to get it into the top 10 via downloads at iTunes and Amazon MP3. Please can you help to spread the word.
Dave Hart was just 17 when he died last month. A keen musician, last year he wrote and recorded a song called ‘Home’ with school friend Jake Allen. His family is donating all proceeds to PAPYRUS the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.
Every year in the UK more than 2,100 young people under the age of 35 take their own lives. In England and Wales alone around 24,000 attempted suicides are made by 10 to 19 year olds - one every 20 minutes. Although fortunately many are reached before it is too late, suicide remains the main cause of death in young males between the age of 18 and 24.
“My younger brother was dearly loved by family and friends and his death was a tragedy,” said 28 year old brother Steve. “There is a big hole in our close family where Dave should be and it will take time for his loss to truly sink in.
“PAPYRUS is an excellent charity, which through its helpline HOPELineUK 0800 068 41 41, provides practical help and support to young people with depression and those who care for them, helping them to work through their issues; to recognise that there is hope rather than look to end their lives. Please download Dave’s song to make some good come out of this tragedy.”
Said Ged Flynn, chief executive, PAPYRUS: ”We are very sad to hear the news about Dave and above all our sincere thoughts are with his family, friends, school mates and staff at this time. Their generous support will help us to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of suicide by extending our messages to young people, encouraging them to talk and above all, to seek help.”
Editor’s Note:
PAPYRUS is a national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide, offering support and practical advice to young people worried about themselves and others concerned about a young person they know. At our helpline HOPELineUK - 0800 068 41 41 - trained professionals discuss in confidence how to cope - what to say and do to help overcome suicidal feelings, where to access additional help.
We produce resources, campaign and communicate to raise awareness of young suicide risk. To do this we rely heavily on donations and are grateful to our volunteer fundraisers whose efforts make a considerable contribution to our sustainability. www.papyrus-uk.org tel 01925 572 444.
